Help Us Improve Skin Cancer Diagnosis at Crossley Street GP Surgery

We are the Patient Participation Group (PPG) at Crossley Street GP Surgery, a busy practice serving approximately 12,000 patients in Wetherby and the surrounding villages. Our group consists of ten dedicated patients who collaborate with the practice to address concerns and enhance the overall patient experience.
One of the practice’s key priorities right now is ensuring the timely and accurate diagnosis of skin conditions, particularly skin cancer. To support this, we are fundraising to purchase an additional dermatoscope - a vital piece of equipment that enables GPs to examine skin lesions with greater magnification and clarity. This significantly improves their ability to detect skin cancers at an early stage, leading to faster treatment and better outcomes.
Currently, the surgery has only one dermatoscope, which must be shared among multiple GPs. With up to nine or more GPs working at the practice on most days, this single device is frequently in use when needed by others, creating delays in diagnosing and referring patients with suspicious skin lesions. A second dermatoscope will ensure that at least two GPs have access to this crucial tool at any given time, improving efficiency and reducing wait times for urgent assessments.
The cost of a new dermatoscope is approximately £2,000 (including VAT). If we exceed our fundraising goal, any additional funds will go towards purchasing a much-needed wheelchair for the surgery.
